CSD turning blind eye towards black marketing of gas cylinders

Hyderabad, November 10: Government has recently warned the people that it plans to strictly implement “one kitchen one cylinder” rule. If any house is found with double cylinder it will be cancelled so as to meet the rising demand of gas cylinders. Keeping aside whether the government’s move is right or wrong, the question arises why the government doesn’t control black-marketing of cylinders to meet the rising demand of gas cylinders?

On an estimate 600 to 700 cylinders are black-marketed daily at various commercial places across the city while consumers, in the name of scarcity of cylinders, have to wait for a week or fortnight after booking.

Consumers complain that while the elderly consumers are forced to take the cylinder on bicycle the gas cylinder is supplied to commercial places within one to three hours on a phone call by agency workers.

While gas cylinders are provided to general consumers at the rate of 398 rupees per cylinder the same is sold to commercial customers at the rate of 650 rupees per cylinder. It has been told that gas cylinders are supplied to hotels, restaurants, function halls and other commercial places in black and this business is in full swing but the officials of civil supplies department have turned a blind eye to this and show no interest in taking action against such illegal practices.
