Shahjahanpur: Taking a dig at the opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Saturday asked why they are crying hoarse over demonetisation but silent on the issue of triple talaq.
“Congress, SP, BSP, Kejriwal are crying hoarse over demonetisation. I cannot understand why they are so worried, what harm has demonetisation done to them?” Shah said while addressing a Parivartan Rally here.
“After demonetisation, the faces of Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav, Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav), Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee look drawn. They are looking 10 years older than their age,” he added.
Defending the government’s decision, Shah said that though it is causing some inconvenience to the people right now, but these “50 days of pain would weed out black money from the country for 50 years”.
Raking up the issue of triple talaq, Shah said the practice should end, as it denies equal rights to women.
“The Supreme Court hearing a petition over triple talaq recently asked the central government’s stand on the issue. Our government instantly replied that whatever the religion, women’s rights must be protected, the practice of triple talaq should end,” Shah said.
“The Muslim women must get their rights,” he added.
He said that parties like the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress are silent over the issue as they “can neither support it, not oppose it”.
“I request the women in Uttar Pradesh to ask of those who come seeking their votes as to what they are doing for upholding women’s rights,” Shah said.
Targeting Uttar Pradesh’s Samajwadi Party government, Shah said that the law and order situation in the state was so bad that no development could be expected.
He said that during the BJP’s Kalyan Singh government in the early 1990s, criminals were either in jail or out of the state.
“We want to give that kind of governance to Uttar Pradesh, we want to end the terror of land mafias, provide security to women and employment to the youth,” the BJP President said.
Shah also mentioned surgical strikes, saying under this government “our army retaliates forcefully to every provocation from Pakistan’s side”.
“During the UPA regime, the enemy would humiliate our soldiers by chopping off their heads. But today, our army takes its revenge by conducting surgical strikes deep inside Pakistani territory,” he said.
Shah also remembered great freedom fighters Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqullah Khan and Roshan Singh, who all hailed from Shahjahanpur, and were convicted and sent to the gallows by the British in the Kakori conspiracy case.
