CRPF picket attacked in Srinagar, one injured

Srinagar, May 04: Militants made an abortive bid to blow up a roadside Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bunker on the bank of river Jehlum near here this afternoon.

A civilian received splinter wounds in the neck, official sources said.

They said that militants hurled a hand grenade towards bunker of 144 CRPF batallion near Hanuman Mandir, Amira Kadal bridge at crowded Hari Singh High Street (HSHS) this afternoon at 1440 hrs.

However, it missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside causing splinter injuries to one Ghulam Ahmad Dagga.

The injured was immediately rushed to SMHS hospital in a critical condition, they said.

Hundreds of people in the crowded market ran for safety after the blast and traffic on busy route was disrupted for some time.

Security forces have intensified patrolling in the entire civil lines, they said.
