CRPF constable found guilty of killing Additional DIG

Hyderabad, July 27: The seventh additional metropolitan sessions judge court of Hyderabad on Monday found constable T Hanumantha Rao of Chandrayanagutta CRPF office guilty of killing his additional DIG (administration) and trying to kill another deputy commandant. The DIG was killed in his chamber on December 31, 2008 from close range with an Insas rifle.

The judge, G Radha Rani, who convicted the constable under sections 302 and 307 of IPC, section 27 of the Arms Act and section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Properties Act, said that she would pronounce the quantum of punishment on July 28.

The police who booked an FIR against the constable wrote about the frustration and depression he was undergoing owing to his inability to take his wife to an infertility clinic and his not being able to get proper medical care to his swollen legs problem at the CRPF dispensary, etc. During the course of trial the accused denied having killed the DIG and argued that the weapon that is being shown in the records as his weapon is not his weapon at all. The prosecution, however, succeeded in proving his guilt.
