A CRPF constable was arrested last night for allegedly killing his wife by strangulating her, police said today. The constable Pratap Dangi was posted in Srinagar and had come on leave to his village Madhia, Prithvipur Police Station In-charge, P M Jain said. Dangi had informed the police on December 4 that his wife Bharti Devi committed suicide by hanging herself in the house following which police sent her body for autopsy. The post-mortem report revealed that Bharti died because of strangulation and not due to hanging. Police later took Dangi into custody on suspicion and interrogated him following which he admitted that he had killed his wife by strangulating her and later hanged the body to the ceiling to show that it was a case of suicide. The accused told the police that they were childless and used to enter into fights frequently over the matter and on December 4 also after a quarrel, in a fit of rage, he strangulated her. Police later arrested Dangi on the charge of murdering his wife. PTI
