Surat: Kausar Banu (24), a schoolteacher, won Dr A D Shashtri Medal and Srimad Bhagwat Rangavdhut Nareshwar Medal for scoring 80.50 per cent marks in Sanskrit. The gold medals were presented to her at the convocation of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) here on Thursday.
She scored highest marks in Bhagwad Puran and Vedant papers in Sanskrit language for which she was awarded one medal each. Kausar opted Sanskrit as her main subject in Master of Arts (MA) degree course which she studied from Shree Rang Navchetan Mahila Arts College (SRNMAC), Valiya in Bharuch.
There was a time when Kausar had thought of quitting studies due to financial problems but thanks to the encouragement of her husband and teachers she pursued her dreams.
Kausar Banu admitted that Sanskrit is little difficult to learn, still she chose it and proved that one can break language barrier with hard work and perseverance.
She attributes her success to her husband Riyaz Sindha who works in a sugar company and her teachers. Her husband motivated her to continue with studies even after marriage and her teachers supported her all the way. It was a challenging situation for Kausar Banu to manage her studies amid a financial crunch, a growing son, who is now two years old, and responsibilities at the job. But her determination has made her an example for other working women now.
