Mumbai;”Tera Surroor” director Shawn Arranha feels music composer-actor Himesh Reshammiya has received undue criticism despite proving himself many times.
“Tera Surroor: A Lethal Love Story”, which stars Himesh in the lead role, is the sequel to the 2007 film “Aap Kaa Surroor” which marked the acting debut of the “Aashiq Banaya Aapne” singer.
When asked if the criticism about Himesh’s acting skills have been unfair, Shawn told PTI, “Yes of course. He has done a lot, proved himself many times. He has given fantastic music too. In fact, it was his idea for the film to be in a certain style… I don’t pay much attention to what others have to say.”
After his debut, Himesh went on to act in films like “Karzzzz”, “Radio”, “Kajraare” and “The Xpose”. In “Tera Suroor”, Himesh, 42, plays the role of a gangster and Shawn said the “Hookah Bar” hitmaker has grown as an actor over the years.
“I have seen most of his films and he has really grown as an actor. He is a genuinely nice person who knows what he is doing. He is extremely hardworking and worked on his looks, style and walk. Since this was his first action film, he got a lean physique, abs and the perfect body to play the role. He truly became the character.”
The film also stars Naseeruddin Shah and Shekhar Kapur in pivotal roles.
The director said getting both the actors on board was not difficult as they instantly fell in love with the script.
“It wasn’t difficult at all. They both loved the story and how each character was different from the rest. They specially loved the minute details in the script and were impressed by it. Naseer and Shekhar sir are coming together after ‘Masoom’ and I am thrilled about it.”
Shawn added despite both the actors being of big stature, they never interfered with his vision as a filmmaker.
“Both are extremely choosy about movies but I wanted them in this film to add freshness. They gave me full hand as a director and never interfered in my work. I managed to finish the film in 30 days flat because I had actors who were extremely cooperative.”
The director said if the response to “Tera Suroor” turns out nice then the makers will have more films coming from the franchise.
“It depends. If people love this film then we would definitely have more films coming in the franchise. We will build up new stories and add different characters.”
The film also stars debutante Farah Karimi and Monica Dogra and is scheduled to release on March 11.
