Crisis deepens in TRS

Hyderabad, June 16: The crisis in TRS has further deepened and the party appears to be heading for a split. Telangana Bhavan, the party headquarters
witnessed high drama on Monday. On one hand, TRS president KCR made a sensational statement that the rebellion in the party was the handiwork of those who were opposed to separate state. He also alleged that this was the first step to eliminate him by anti-Telangana forces.

On the other hand, the rebel leader D Ravindra Naik, who was roughed up by TRS activists near party office when he tried to barge in where the state executive meeting was on, filed SC/ST atrocities case against party activists, accused KCR of betraying the cause of Telangana, rubbed his nose on the floor seeking pardon from the people of Telangana for joining hands with “riff-raff” politicians.

For past 20 days, the rebels in the party have been demanding the resignation of KCR accusing him of converting the party into a family affair and alleged that he had diluted the movement for separate state.

The first salvo was fired by former minister D Ravindra Naik who wrote a letter to KCR to convene emergency state executive meeting failing which his letter be treated as resignation letter. Later, MLC K Dilip Kumar raised the voice of rebellion along with others and decided to float a non-political outfit called Telangana vimochana samiti.

With no end in sight to the rebel activities, KCR finally convened the state executive meeting on Monday and decided to constitute three committees including political affairs committee to chalk out an action plan to take forward the movement for separate state.

At the meeting he told the leaders that there was threat to his life from anti-Telangana forces who were planning to kill him in an attempt to root out the Telangana movement. “There is no compromise on the issue of Telangana until the separate state was formed. Such threats cannot stop TRS from taking up the movement,” he said.

As the meeting was in progress, the rebel leader Ravindra Naik reached the venue and tried to force his way into the meeting hall claiming that the meeting was convened following his letter and since the party had not suspended him, he had a right to participate in it. But TRS activists prevented him at the main gate and a scuffle followed. The police intervened and Naik was forced to leave the venue.

Later Naik went to the house of another rebel leader A Chandrasekhar and displaying his torn shirt showered choicest abuses and cursed KCR and called him as “arrogant and dictator”. He then rubbed his nose on the ground and apologised to the people of Telangana for joining hands with a “betrayer and riff-raff politician.” Naik was TRS MP in 2004 but was denied ticket this time. Naik said “KCR described me as ‘Tribal Gandhi’ served me brandy and now he has insulted me,” he said.

Meanwhile, TRS student wing activists filed SC/ST atrocities case against Ravindra Naik alleging that he abused them taking the name of their caste.
