Criminal carrying reward shot dead

Varanasi, September 10: A hard core criminal wanted in over three dozen criminal cases including murder and attempt to murder was shot dead by a joint team of police and SOG in eastern UP’s Jaunpur district, 60 kilometres from here, last night.

IG Varanasi, Gurudarshan Singh said that Dharmendra Gaur alias Manish Tiwari was shot dead in an encounter with the Special Operation Group and police on the outskirts of the Jaunpur city last night and was carrying a cash reward of Rs 10,000. However, his aide managed to escape.

“Tiwari was charged with over 45 criminal cases, including those of murder, attempt to murder, loot and kidnapping in Jaunpur, Pratapgarh, Varanasi, Sultanpur and Allahabad,” Singh added.

A country-made pistol, six cartridges and his motorcycle were seized from the spot, the IG said.

The police team executing the encounter has been rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 7,500.
