Hyderabad: Congress Party is seriously thinking to appoint former captain of Indian Cricket Team, Mr. Mohammed Azharuddin as President of Telangana State Congress Party. Political Advisor of Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Prashant Kishore advised Congress High Command to appoint Mr. Mohammed Azharuddin as the Chief of Congress Party in Telangana.
Mr. Azharuddin has expressed his willingness to accept any responsibility which Congress High Command assigns to him. Reorganization within the Congress is on the cards.
It may be noted that on the advice of Mr. Prashant Kishore, Bollywood film actor, Mr. Raj Babbar was nominated as Congress President of UP. Reliable sources indicated that Congress is preparing its strategy to win elections in the next phase in the States where it has loss. As a result of which, Congress is floating popular and attractive personalities acceptable to all the sections of the society to contest elections.
Various names of popular personalities have been suggested to Congress High Command which include, Mr. Azharuddin, Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Ms. D.K. Aruna, Mr. Vijay Shanti, Mr. Mallu Bhatti Vikramarak and former minister, Dr. J. Geeta Reddy.
Although, Capt. Uttam Kumar Reddy is trying his level best to consolidate Congress Party in Telangana bu after defections from Congress to TRS, many Congress leaders are campaigning against him in New Delhi to dislodge him.
It may be mentioned that Muslims constitute 23% of the total population of Telangana. They can tilt the power in favour of any party. TRS had promised in its election manifesto that it would provide 12% reservations for Muslims within 4 months of assuming charge in Telangana. Muslims are angry that TRS failed to fulfill its promise. The silence of MIM is also worth noting.
In order to exploit the present situation, Congress wants to project a popular face for the next elections. The reporters of Siasat had a telephonic with Mr. Mohammed Azharuddin about his proposed nominated as Congress Presdeint of Telangana State. He said that he is unaware of it. He also told that Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Rahul Gandhi or Mr. Prashant Kishore did not talk to him. He revealed that if such an offer is made to him, he would accept and said that he is a loyal worker of Congress Party.
