Lucknow, March 22: Former Team India skipper and Congress MP from Moradabad Mohammad Azharuddin finds politics is a difficult pitch to bat on rather than cricket.
”In cricket, you have every opponent along with the umpires in front of your eyes but politics is a different ball game where you are often subjected to canards from unknown quarters,” he admitted.
Cricket had always been a easier domain than politics, the stylish batsman from Hyderabad told UNI in an exclusive interview.
Not willing to talk about the match-fixing charges levelled against him, Azhar said he had moved far away from those days and started a new innings in politics. Azhar, who had scored a hundred in his debut, entered politics with same aplomb gaining entry into the Lok Sabha on debut.
Ruling out his return to cricket in any capacity — as a coach or as a player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) — he said politics was keeping him busy and he was enjoying it as well.
Favouring the concept of IPL, Azhar, one of the most successful captains of his times, said such a format will help keep the interest in the game alive. ”I enjoy watching IPL games,” he added.
Agreeing that IPL may cause injuries to players but in the long run such practice would help to prepare themselves for the Cricket World Cup
next year, Azhar said.
