Cricket lovers send a message to IPL organisers

Hyderabad, February 06: It was a different experience for the cricketers at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal) – venue of the on-going Duleep Trophy final. And, it was also a pleasant surprise for the Hyderabad Cricket Association.

For, a delegation of All Party Youth Forum of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation greeted the players, of South Zone and West Zone taking part in the match on Friday, with flowers to convey a message to the governing council of IPL-3 that they will not obstruct any sporting activity.

And, the delegation displayed placards expressing its total support to the cricket matches scheduled to be held here by even appealing to Mr. Lalit Modi, Commissioner, IPL, to reconsider his decision to shift the inaugural and the first match of IPL-3 from Hyderabad to Mumbai.

“We were deeply saddened by the decision of IPL. We would like to state that obstruction of sports activities and cricket matches is not Hyderabadi culture,” they said in a statement.

“This is a beautiful city respecting all cultures, sentiments and sports. We request you not to take some incidents as a reflection of the voice of Hyderabad.

In fact, we condemn these acts and would like you to reconsider the decision as it reflects badly on the brand image of Hyderabad,” the members said.

“With the Director General of Police also assuring complete support to the IPL by providing desired security measures, it would be great if Hyderabad hosts the IPL opening ceremony and the inaugural match,” they said.
