Bollywood actor Sunny Deol feels that the choice of actors dominates a script and creativity has taken a backseat in the film industry.
“We have become commercial. It is not about story alone today… There are X, Y, Z (actors) needed in the film studios … Add different things. So creativity has vanished today. I am not following cinema much but I think there are youngster films coming out. But then after getting old also we do teenage films,” Sunny said when asked about movies on youngsters being made at present.
He was speaking to reporters at the trailer launch of “Ghayal Once Again”, the sequel of his 1990 super-hit film “Ghayal”.
Earlier the film was titled “Ghayal Returns”, but later its title was changed.
“Usually people add part two or returns. The ‘Ghayal’ of 1990 has come again so the title,” the “Jeet” star said.
Besides title, its release date too kept changing.
Earlier it was to clash with Salman Khan starrer “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo”, but now the film will release in January next year.
“There were speculation that we are coming on so and so date. Our attempt was to come soon. Diwali was a good date but due to creative work…. Special effects things got delayed,” he added.
The 58-year-old actor is not only starring in the project but will also serve as the director and producer.
“Production is tough and being a director as well apart from acting the responsibility is more. I am very happy with my film. What we had thought that has come out that way,” he adds.
Sunny will play the character of Ajay Mehra in the film, also starring Soha Ali Khan, which will hit the screens on January 15.
“I was young when I did ‘Ghayal’. The film was about him (the character – Ajay Mehra), his family …And his problems. We have tried our best to show things of today’s time in ‘Ghayal Once Again’. If Ajay Mehra exists today then how he would be and what he would be doing,” he added.
