Create awareness about Welfare schemes: Azad

Hyderabad, January 22: Union Health Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed his displeasure that the decisions taken in the meeting of the co-ordination committee have reached the press. He told the members to maintain secrecy and to work unitedly for the party and the Govt. In order to counter the attacks of the opposition and to create awareness among the people it was decided to launch one month long awareness programme.

It was also resolved to fill up the vacant posts of corporations so that dissatisfaction among the party cadre could be removed. By-elections and elections to the local bodies were also reviewed.

Mr. Mohammed Ali-Shabbir, former minister said that due to insufficient budget allocation for Minorities many welfare schemes are not being implemented properly. He stressed the need to enhance budget allocation for Minorities.

Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy presented the performance report on the election manifesto of 2009 of the Congress party.

The coordination committee meeting continued for three hours at Gandhi Bhavan. Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad presided over the meeting which was attended by N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, D. Raja Narasimha, B. Satyanarayana, Chiranjeevi, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, D. Srinivas and K.S. Rao.

The dissentment of senior party leaders and the expulsion of Dr. P. Shankar Rao were also considered. Mr. Azad instructed the CM to fill up the vacant posts of corporations. Disciplinary action to be taken against the MLA’s who supported Jagan Mohan Reddy was also considered. Steps to be taken for by-election was also on the agenda. Mr. Shabbir highlighted the role of the Muslims to bring the Congress Party to power for the second term, and said that the budget of the Minorities Dept. is Rs. 300 crore which is mainly utilized for scholarships.

He stressed the need to enhance budget allocation substantially. Mr. B. Satyanarayana told that TDP and YSR Congress are wrongly propagating the issues related to farmers and students.

In order to benefit from the welfare schemes of the Govt. a campaign of awareness would be arranged for a period of one month. Out of nine promises made in the election manifesto of 2009 released by Congress only two have not been fulfilled. Free supply of electricity and the supply of 30 kg rice at the rate of Rs. 2 per kg have not been implemented.

PM Dr. Manmohan Singh is arriving in Hyderabad on 4th February to lay the foundation of Metro Train and to hand over appointment letters to one lakh unemployed youths.
