Hdyerabad, June 11: With the surveillance cameras installed at various junctions in the city failing to detect altered and improper number plates on vehicles, the city police have decided to crack the whip on the motorists not following the standard number display rules. A special drive on this will be kicked off on June 14.
“Driving a vehicle with an improper registration number plate is a serious violation. We are giving five days time to vehicle users to comply with the MV Act specifications,” additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand said said in a release.
“Letters and numbers shall be in black on white background for two-wheelers / cars and black letters on yellow background for commercial vehicles. Fancy lettering is not permitted. Other names, pictures and art should not be displayed,” Anand said.
“Wrong number plates have security implications in view of the present terrorist/extremist situation in the city and will mislead investigation agencies,” he said. Penalties up to Rs 5,000 would be imposed on the defaulters.
