CPM demands 10% ST reservation

CPI (M) State Secretary T Veerabhadram on Monday demanded that the Telangana Government take steps to increase the reservation for tribals in the State from present six to 10 per cent.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a meeting organised by Telangana Girijana Sangham at Sundaraiyya Vignana Kendram here, Veerabhadram said that the TRS Government had promised to give 12 per cent reservation for tribals in the State. However, no steps were taken to fulfill the promise. Further, he opposed the inclusion of Valmiki and Bhoi castes into the Scheduled Tribes.

The CPI (M) leader accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of trying to split the STs in the State. He said that STs were completely ignored in nearly 3,000 vacancies filled by the government so far. (INN)
