Kochi, April 04: Congress in Kerala today said CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan must make it clear if the party had any understanding with the Jamaat-e-Islami for the April 13 Assembly polls.
CPI(M), which had some time ago described Jamaat-e-Islami as a fundamentalist outfit, was now indulging in “opportunist politics” by wooing it on the eve of the polls, Kerala PCC President Ramesh Chennithala alleged.
“In all the constituencies, CPI(M) has some sort of an understanding with the Jamaat,” Chennithala told reporters, adding that the Marxist party had thought of such a partnership, anticipating a massive defeat.
Asked about CPI(M) leaders’ claim that IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty had been offered the post of Deputy Chief Ministership if UDF was voted to power, Chennithala said it was “baseless”.
“There is no such demand from IUML and the party has not asked for such a post.
