CPI(M) using joint forces for own benefit: Congress

Kolkata, July 30: Echoing ally Trinamool Congress, Congress today accused the Left Front government in West Bengal of using anti-Maoist operations in West Midnapore to serve interests of CPI(M) and defended TC chief Mamata Banerjee’s proposed visit to Lalgarh on August nine.

WBPCC President Manas Bhunia, though not in favour of withdrawal of joint forces from the troubled district, said 53 companies of CRPF sent by the Centre at the request of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee were being “misutilised”.

“The central forces are not being used properly by the state government. In the name of flushing out Maoists, it is CPI(M) which is being helped by the state government to commit atrocities on the people and spread its area of influence in 73 blocks before next year’s assembly election,” Bhunia alleged at a press conference.
