CPI(M) to protest against Obama visit

Shimla, November 03: The Himachal Pradesh state secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to hold a state-wide protest against the visit of US president Brack Obama on November 8.

“The visit is to further accelerate the pace of economic reforms in India and aggressively force the government to adopt policies which are detrimental to the interests of people, in the name of strategic alliance,” a CPI(M) statement said.

“Over the years these reforms had proved inimical to our sovereignty and interests of the people and the paradigm shift in the fiscal policies relating to insurance and banking sector had completely reversed the concept of social welfare state,” the statement added.

The demonstrators would highlight key issues like justice for the victims of the Bhopal gas accident, extradition of Warren Anderson to face trail in India and payment of damages by Dow Chemicals.
