Bolpur (WB), April 22: CPI(M) MP Ramchandra Dom was gheraoed for about 3 hours today by villagers who alleged he was distributing money to lure voters of Choricha under Sainthia assembly constituency.
Dom, MP from Bolpur, along with some CPI(M) local leaders had allegedly approached the villagers with money to lure them to vote for the party. He was gheraoed and put inside a house of his friend at Choricha, police said.
Police rushed to the spot and rescued him but no money was recovered.
Dom denying the charges against him told PTI over phone that a conspiracy had been hatched by Trinamool Congress to harass and malign him.
“I had gone to the house of our local leader at Choricha when some people, believed to be Trinamool Congress activists, rushed at me and abused me with fictitious charge,” he claimed.
