CPI(M) leader criticises Mamata for ignoring railway safety

Kolkata, October 23: The CPI(M) today slammed Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for “systematically neglecting” safety aspects of the railways. “The railways have become the biggest casualty due to her inept handling of the ministry.

Starting from train accidents to repeated glitches in the underground Metro Rail, one can easily conclude that safety aspects have been systematically neglected by the Railway minister,” CPI(M) Central Committee member Md Selim said. “She is misusing her ministry as a tool for her political ascent and destroying the railways with the aim of ascending to power in West Bengal,” Selim told a TV channel here.

Instead of strengthening safety of the railways, he said the Trinamool Congress chief was holding cultural programmes at the expense of state exchequer. Selim also said that Trinamool Congress leaders of “small, medium and big rank” were controlling the Railway Ministry.
