CPI(M) hits out: ponder over defeat, it advises AIADMK

Chennai, July 15: The Communist Party of India (Marixst)’s alliance with the All India Anna DMK (AIADMK) is on the verge of collapse with the Left party hitting back at the Dravidian party and advising it to ponder over the reasons for the defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections, instead of spewing venom on the Marxists. After AIADMK headquarters secretary K A Sengottaiyan dismissed CPI(M)’s criticism holding the AIADMK responsibile for the defeat of the alliance as mischeivous, laughable, against alliance dharma and against political culture, CPI(M) state unit secretary N Varadarajan today hit back, saying “its better, the AIADMK, instead of becoming ferocious over CPI(M)’s criticism, ponders over the causes for the defeat and sets things right”.

Reacting to Mr Sengottaiyan’s diatribe, Mr Varadarajan, in a statement here, said it was unfortunate that the AIADMK, while failing to analyse the reasons attributed by the CPI(M) state committee for the defeat, spewed venom on the party and used harsh words, exposing its inability to tolerate criticism.

Cracks had developed in the relations between the two parties, when the CPI(M), in its state committee meeting on July 8, adopted a resolution listing out the factors that led to the defeat of the AIADMK-led alliance in the state in the May Lok Sabha elections, though it was in an advantageous position to sweep the polls.
