CPI Will Fight Till Telangana Was Created: Narayana

CPI State secretary Dr K Narayana today made it clear that his party would not go back on the Telangana issue till separate State was carved out even though other parties retraced their step. The CPI has taken up the Telangana issue not for the sake of party’s survival in the region like other parties, he clarified.

Participating in a Meet-the-Press program organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) at Basheerbagh Press Club here on Tuesday on the completion of the party’s Telangana Poru Yatra, Dr Narayana reminded that his party, which fought for United Andhra Pradesh in 1969, was now fighting for separate Telangana under changed circumstances. He said that his party was fighting for separate Telangana as per its Warangal Declaration in 2000. The CPI is the only party that was demanding separate Telangana in all the 23 districts. In the early days of Warangal Declaration, the CPI too faced opposition from the party leaders in other regions. Following a series of discussions, party leaders across the State were demanding bifurcation of the State, he said, adding that the Party would have taken the same decision even if the party had MLAs from the Seemandhra region.

Responding to a question on separate Rayalaseema demand, Narayana said there was no sincerity in that demand. It is not fair on the part of those who were demanding separate Rayalaseema to link the Telangana issue saying that separate Rayalaseema should be created in case separate Telangana State was created or the State should be kept united as it is. He said that he has no objection in demanding separate Rayalaseema, but linking it with the Telangana issue was not fair. It clearly shows their opportunistic attitude, Narayana said, adding that the CPI does not see the separate Rayalaseema movement on par with the Telangana movement. As there was honesty and basis for Telangana movement his party was extending total support and directly participating in the movement, he added. He said that their policy on Telangana issue was very clear and the party would think it at the national level if the need arises. He warned that there will be heavy loss if the decision on Telangana was delayed further.

WARNS TRS NOT TO TRUST CONGRESS

The CPI leader also warned TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao not to trust the Congress, which was known for deceiving the people of Telangana region again and again. “The CPI will hail the Congress if it created separate Telangana State. Let it at least declare that it was against creation of Telangana State, but should not sabotage the movement”, he added.

Dr Narayana also alleged that the Congress leaders were ‘over acting’ in the Telangana region, but remaining calm in Delhi. He alleged that the ministers, who had taken a pledge on the bodies of students who had committed suicides for Telangana, were enjoying power by sticking to their posts.

He also excoriated the leaders, who were crying that development of the State was halted due to separate Telangana Movement. “Power crisis, Fees Reimbursement, deaths due to Dengue and other diseases have not arisen because of Telangana movement, but because of the State government’s miserable failure and inefficiency of the Congress government”, he added. Stating that every party in Telangana, including BJP, were fighting for Telangana State, he made it clear that his party would not share dais with the saffron party. He also reminded that the BJP too had deceived the people of Telangana after making an assurance.

Stating that he wants the Telugu-speaking people separate amicably without any ill-will, the CPI leader disagreed with the argument that the Seemandhra people were robbers. He said creation of Telangana was possible only under political pressure. He also advised the political parties not to be rigid and change their policies in conformity with the people’s sentiments. “CPI has taken a decision in favor of Telangana following the strong desire of Telangana people. The successive governments also failed to implement the agreements made with regard to Telangana”, he said.

BOTH CONGRESS, TDP CHEATING PEOPLE

Dubbing the Congress and TDP as bourgeois parties, Narayana said that both the parties were deceiving the people and speaking differently in different regions and losing credibility. Congress contested the 2004 elections with an alliance with the TRS and the TDP contested 2009 elections with alliance of TRS and changed their stands after the elections. He said that CPI will not be an opportunistic party like others. He said that his party was not interested in working with the Telangana Political JAC because both the TRS and JAC were taking decisions differently. (NSS)
