CPI warns of protests against FDI in retail

Nellore, November 28: Communist Party of India state secretary K Narayana on Sunday stated that his party was opposed to Foreign Direct Investments in the retail sector.

Talking to media persons, Narayana said that the FDI in the retail sector would be a big blow to small and middle-level shop owners and affect their livelihood. He asked the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to oppose the proposal in the State and warned of starting agitation if he fails to do so. He said the CPI would stage rallies and dharnas across the state opposing the FDI in retail sector.

Narayana demanded that the government announce support price for sugarcane growers, who are in dire straits due to government’s indifferent attitude. The sugarcane growers are also attempting to declare `crop holiday’ on the lines of paddy growers in Godavari districts.

The CPI leader demanded that Central Bureau of Investigation probe against the Ministers concerned for looting of mineral wealth from the state instead of targeting the IAS officers. “It is not a good precedent for the probing agency to target only IAS officers. The agency should investigate the Ministers concerned who ordered issuing of GOs,” he pointed out.
