Hyderabad, July 09: The Communist Party of India urged Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy to release prisoners who were serving life sentences on the eve of 50 years of formation of Andhra Pradesh.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister party State secretary K Narayana and former MLA Chada Venkata Reddy wanted the release of those life convicts who have already completed five years including remission, those who have crossed 65 years of age, prisoners having good conduct, those ailing with prolonged diseases and those who have not reported back to jail after the expiry of their parole. When the issue was brought to the minister concerned by the political parties and by the people’s organisations, the latter had promised to look into it, they stated.
In the past the then Chief Minister T Anjaih had ordered the release of prisoners, who were undergoing life sentences on the completion of 25 years of formation of State, they informed.
