CPI urges CM to settle row with unions

Hyderabad, November 07: CPI State Committee secretary K Narayana has urged Chief Minister K Rosaiah to resolve the `incentive bonus’ issue amicably by holding talks with representatives of the recognised trade union of Singareni Collieries.

The CPI leader took strong objection to the collieries management’s decision to give 10 per cent incentive bonus to the workers and employees against the usual 16 per cent bonus.

Accordring to Narayana, in 1999-2000 Singareni Collieries earned Rs 300-crore profit and gave 10 per cent bonus. It was increased to 16 per cent from 2007-08. But, after Rosaiah became the chief minister, the collieries management reverted to 10 per cent bonus, he said.

“Enjoyment is a natural right of the workers and workers are not ready to lose their right. When the State Government cannot bear any additional burden why did it compel Singareni Collieries to give only 10 per cent incentive bonus to workers?’’ he wanted to know and hoped that the chief minister would solve the problem soon.
