CPI on ‘Talaq’ Ordinance

Hyderabad: The National Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy of the Communist Party of India has pointed out that all forms of instant talaq are already declared “invalid and illegal” by the Supreme Court of India. Communist Party of India welcomed the judgment.

In a statement today, it said that subsequently government introduced a bill in Parliament and it is now pending before Rajya Sabha. Many parties demanded that the bill be sent to Select Committee for closer scrutiny, but BJP government did not agree. Instead of waiting for the select committee report, the government has, in haste promulgated an ordinance which again will have to be put before Parliament and Rajya Sabha for approval. In the background of this, it is obvious that government has taken this step to polarize and communalize the polity before the Parliamentary elections.
