CPI Telangana Secretary Ch Venkat Reddy today demanded that the government give Rs 5 lakh exgratia to the families of those farmers committed suicides.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao here, the CPI leader asked the government to find facts among those families rejected financial assistance. Seeking to amend GO 421 released to extend financial assistance to deceased families he expressed concern that more than 500 distressed farmers committed suicides.
Reddy attributed the suicides to the failure of the government succor on time, non implementation of crop insurance, failure of crops, power cuts, no minimum support price. He also charged that the officials denying to extend the benefit to the deceased families showing various reasons. He also asked the chief minister to set up committees at mandal and village level to find out the facts related to suicides. (NSS)
