CPI seeks Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to kin of farmers

CPI Telangana State Council has asked the TRS government to extend Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to the families of farmers who committed suicides. The CPI also asked the State government to inquire into the reasons that forced farmers to end their lives.

On Saturday, CPI State Council Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy addressed a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao stating that responding on suicides of farmers in Medak district, the High Court sought government’s explanation, but unfortunately the government did not respond.

He said in his letter that the suicides were going on in Telangana State and Chief Minister KCR has a deep knowledge on farmers’ issues but the problem was the Chief Minister has no soft-corner towards farmers’ suicides. Chada said the Chief Minister was not responding on farmers’ suicides.

“Responding to a query, Union Agriculture Minister said in Parliament that 97 farmers committed suicides in Telangana State from January to April 2015. Farmers Unions were arguing that the number is more. It is injustice on the part of the government for not responding on suicides”, he alleged. He alleged that the Chief Minister has no sympathy towards farmers. (NSS)
