CPI-M says it still favours united Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, January 14: CPI-M today said there is no change in its stance of keeping Andhra Pradesh united and appealed to the Centre to take a quick decision on the issue.

“We have read the Srikrishna Committee report. We feel that there is no need to change our stance,” CPI-M State Secretary B V Raghavulu told reporters here after a meeting of the party”s state secretariat.

Despite the political pressure over the pro-Telangana agitation, the party has been advocating retaining the unity of Andhra Pradesh.

The Centre should take a decision on the issue without delay for the larger interests of the state, Raghavulu said.

He said the government should give special attention for the welfare of backward sections like Dalits, tribals and minorities.
