CPI (M)-IUML indulge in violence in Kannur

Kannur, Dec 22: Tension prevailed in parts of the politically sensitive district as three motorbikes and an autorikshaw were set ablaze in a fresh spate of attacks by rival Indian Union Muslim League and CPI-M workers, police said today.

Two motorbikes owned by CPI-M loyalists were set on fire near Payyanur in the district today while another two-wheeler and an autorikshaw were torched by unidentified persons at Chapparapadavu near Taliparamba late last night, leading to tension in the politically sensitive district, they said.

A pick-up van also came under attack as 21 vehicles, including 18 motorbikes were damaged during the week long skirmishes involving the rival groups,despite stepped up vigil and patrolling by police in the trouble torn areas.
