CPI (M) flays Haryana CM over naming Chandigarh Airport after RSS ideologue

New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday flayed the Centre and the Haryana Government for naming Chandigarh International Airport after RSS ideologue Mangal Sen instead of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

“The Punjab and Haryana Governments had earlier agreed that they would be naming the Chandigarh Airport after freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. But the BJP government of Haryana has taken a step backward and now they want to name the airport after Mangal Sen, who is a RSS ideologue” CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury told the media here.

“Now, the Centre says that there is a difference of opinion between both the state governments, and hence, they haven’t renamed the Chandigarh Airport yet. This is an injustice to the country and its freedom fighters,” he added.

Yechury also said that the move was a great insult to the country and its freedom struggle.

“This insult has come from the government who has got no role to play in the freedom struggle of the country,” he added.

Several CPI (M) MPs also raised slogans against the move of Harayana Government outside the Parliament.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had earlier withdrawn the decision of his predecessor Bhupender Singh Hooda to name Chandigarh International Airport after Bhagat Singh.

He has instead proposed that the airport should be named after RSS pracharak Mangal Sen and not as Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport. (ANI)
