Thiruvananthapuram, August 18: Stung by the drubbing in the Lok Sabha elections in Kerala, CPI-M, the leading partner in the ruling LDF in the state, today approved a comprehensive draft policy to improve the functioning of its three-year-old government led by V S Achuthanandan.
The draft policy was given final shape at the two-day state secretariat meeting of the party which concluded today.
The meeting was attended by party general secretary Prakash Karat and senior leaders in the state.
Riding on an anti-incumbency wave, Congress-led opposition UDF had won 16 of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state in the last elections. The LDF, which had won 18 seats in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, managed to get only four seats this time.
One of the main proposals at the CPI-M secretariat meet was the decision to set up a single-window system for speedy clearance of pending major investment projects, party sources said.
A panel chaired by the chief minister would monitor the progress of the projects to be implemented including Smart City at Kochi, other IT projects and the Vizhinjam sea port.
Among other things, the policy also wanted a review of the below poverty line (BPL) list in the state considering the peculiar realities in the state as the central guidelines on this count deprived many eligible families from the list.
At least 32 lakh families had to be included in the state BPL list, while the Centre had recognised only 10 lakh families in the list, the sources said.
