CPI (M) demands White Paper on power situation

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday demanded that the State Government release a White Paper on power generation, distribution and purchase.

Talking to media persons, CPI (M) state general secretary B V Raghavulu said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s statement on power sector was confusing and left room for suspicion. To clarify the doubts among people and parties, he demanded that the Chief Minister release a White Paper on power generation, distribution and purchase. He said the power crisis cropped up mainly due to the short-sightedness of the government.

Though the State Government has predicted the seriousness of power crisis, he alleged that it has not taken proper measures to tackle it efficiently. He said that the power cuts have increased as the government showed negligent attitude towards addressing the issue.

Although the Chief Minister has been writing letters to the Centre seeking additional allotment of coal and gas for power generation, he said that the Union Government was not taking the State’s appeals seriously and did not respond positively. He alleged that Kiran Kumar Reddy has once again cheated the farmers on the promise of providing seven hours power to them. He asked as to how the government could supply seven hour power to farmers without generating electricity from the power plants plagued due to shortage of coal and gas.

The CPI (M) leader also criticized Kiran Kumar Reddy for announcing Rs 4,000 crore sops for the Industrial sector when the farmers were facing serious crisis due to shortage of power. He announced that the party would launch joint agitation with other like-minded parties to mount pressure on the Centre and the State Government.
