Opposing the new Excise Policy adopted by the Congress Government in the state, Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary K Narayana today said the party would intensify its agitation in front of auction centres. Addressing a press conference here, the CPI leader said the party would launch protests across the State from June 26 against the allotment of liquor shops through lottery system. The CPI party also would launch agitation in Guntur and Prakasam districts demanding the government to recover the land from VANPIC, he said. He said the party would launch awareness ‘jataras’ on urban problems from July 15-21 and picket municipal offices on July 23. Referring to the congress party’s debacle in the recent by-polls, he said the ruling Congress party suffered a major defeat in the recent by-elections mainly due to its failure to initiate action against the tainted ministers.
The government instead of dismissing the corrupt ministers from Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Cabinet was shielding them to protect its selfish interests, he alleged. The government has no moral right to speak on the corruption as itself was involved in the scandals and irregularities, he pointed out. UNI
