Andhra Pradesh State Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI), K Ramakrishna, has demanded that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should stop the dramas being enacted by them in regard to granting special category status to the State, and special status should be declared immediately.
In a press note here today, Ramakrishna said the Centre has failed to make a clear announcement in the matter even 20 months after formation of the Government. He recalled that the earlier Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had announced in the Parliament, in the context of bifurcation of the State, that special category status would be accorded to Andhra Pradesh, but the Centre was delaying the matter in the name of Niti Ayog.
The Chief Minister presenting memoranda yesterday at Delhi seeking special category status and implementation of other assurances given qat the time of bifurcation of the State shows that a new drama is being enacted. Stating that the people were not prepared to accept any special packages, he said the Centre should announce special status, if it has honesty and commitment. If Chandrababu Naidu is really committed, the TDP should withdraw its Ministers from the Central Ministry, he added. (NSS).
