CPI condemns Lagadapati’s remarks

Hyderabad, March 14: The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday condemned Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal’s remarks seeking action against its party leaders suspecting their role in the vandalism of statues on Tank Bund.

In a letter to Mr. Rajagopal, CPI State Secretary K. Narayana attributed the Congress MP’s comments to “his political ignorance”. The CPI had a clear stand on Telangana at the national and local levels unlike the Congress which had mutually contradictory views in Telangana and other regions.

Moreover, CPI was not part of the political joint action committee and was conducting agitations for separate State on its own. The party, however, participated in the ‘Million March’ to express solidarity with the pro-Telangana forces. “It is surprising to see people who cannot distinguish between the call for a protest and expression of solidarity becoming MPs,” he remarked.

The CPI was among the first to condemn the incident and the party raised the issue on the floor of the Assembly the next day, Dr. Narayana said.
