CPI asks Telecom Minister to quit

Hyderabad, October 25: The Communist Party of India (CPI) today demanded the resignation of Telecom Minister A Raja from the Cabinet following 2G Spectrum licenses scam.

In a statement here today, CPI Deputy General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said that Raja was the Telecom Minister in the UPA Government when the 2G Spectrum licenses were issued. He also demanded cancellation of the licenses as it caused Rs 60,000 crore loss to the exchequer. The allotment system was not only defective but it caused a huge loss to the Government, the CPI leader said. Despite public outcry, Raja refused to order an inquiry and defended the deal. As a miniter, Raja can never escape the responsibility, Sudhakar Reddy said.

Since the CBI inquiry was on, the minister should quit and allow a free and fair investivation by the agency.

The DMK should also withdraw him from the ministry and Prime minister Manmohan Singh should ask Raja to quit, the CPI leader said.
