CPDCL staff attacked by local mob in Miralam

Hyderabad, September 18: A local mob of around 100 people, allegedly supported by public representatives from the Miralam area of the Old City, attacked on-duty CPDCL (Central Power Distribution Company Ltd) officials on Friday.

They also ransacked the customer service centre and destroyed the furniture.

Detention of pilferage of energy (DPE) engineers along with staff of vigilance department of CPDCL, had conducted routine inspections on electrical service connections on Thursday, in order to arrest power theft, correctness of meter readings and mapping of services according to distribution transformers in the Miralam area. The power utility took serious view of the incident as it amounted to obstructing department staff in performing their duties.

A complaint has been lodged against the miscreants in the Kalapattar police station.

CPDCL released a statement saying that their staff were providing services to customers, braving wind and rain so there can be uninterrupted power supply to consumers in the twin cities. Therefore, such violence by miscreants on officials conducting inspections was a serious offence, officials said.
