CPCB to inspect dyeing units in Ludhiana

Chandigarh, August 09:The Central Pollution Control Board will inspect all the 17 large scale dyeing units in Ludhiana by September 15 to ascertain the extent of compliance of pollution norms prescribed by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB).

A decision to this effect was taken by CPCB Chairman S P Gautam during a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here today, an official spokesman said.

The complete information relating to these 17 industrial units would be provided by the Chairman of Vardhman Group S P Oswal to the CPCB Chairman to facilitate inspection.

Badal asked the Chairman CPCB to suggest the ways and means to control the menace of industrial pollution.

The chief minister sought cooperation and technical support from the CPCB to ensure proper functioning and upgradation of effluent treatment plants.

Meanwhile, PPCB Chairman Yogesh Goel informed the chief minister that there were 268 industrial dyeing units in Ludhiana, consisting of 17 large and 251 Small and Medium units. PTI
