CP confirms Devi died in accident; probe on

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy has clarified that the death of Devi, an Engineering student of Jubilee Hills was not because of murder but an accident.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Mahender Reddy said the fact was revealed in their inquiry. The CP said doubts were raised on Devi’s actual cause of the death due to the statement of an eye-witness one Ramulu, who told police that he had seen two persons – a male and a female – fighting in the car before the accident.

Mahender Reddy said the department appointed six investigation teams under supervision of an ACP. He said the department examined the call data of all the guests attended the party, including Devi and Bharath Simha Reddy. He said the police also examined the CC footage recorded at Nanakramguda where the car sped through the way. He also said they examined CC footage of all cameras where the accident took place. He said the police also examined the persons attended the party.

The CP said the police examined the call data to know timings of the persons and their stay at the time of accident. He said the police also investigated the case in an angle whether the girl was killed elsewhere and threw the body where it was found. The injuries on the body of Devi were due to accident only, he said. He also said the injuries of Devi and cut marks on the tree due to car hit were at same height. “We took the help of medical, forensic and scientific experts’”, he said.

The CP said Bharath Simha Reddy had planned the party in the pub a week before. He also asked Devi whether she would attend the party or not. Sonali, a common friend of Devi and Bharath Simha Reddy, too told Bharath that she would attend the party. Devi told Bharath Simha Reddy that she would stay at Sonali’s house and the latter has to pick her up to the pub. He said Devi spoke to her father before the accident and the gap between the accident and the talk with her father was seven minutes only. He said it was not possible for Bharath Simha Reddy to rape Devi and create an accident scene within seven minutes. He said the department decided to register a case under Section 304 IPC against Bharath Simha Reddy because he drove the car after consuming liquor. He said the case was under investigation and the probe would continue till a charge-sheet was filed in the court concerned. (NSS)
