New Delhi, April 19: Siddharth Vashisht alias Manu Sharma, son of former Haryana Minister Vinod Sharma, today lost the final round of legal battle when the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal in Jessica Lall murder case.
A bench comprising Justices P Sathasivam and Swantanter Kumar also upheld the conviction and sentence of Sharma’s accomplices Amardeep Singh Gill alias Tony and Vikas Yadav, son of former Rajya Sabha member D P Yadav.
The apex court upheld the judgement of the Delhi High Court who had reversed the order of acquittal passed by the trial court.
Disapproving the media trial, it said trial by media should be avoided but informative media is entitled to constitutional protection.
Bartender Jessica Lall was shot dead by Sharma in 1999 when she refused to serve liquor to him and his friends at odd hours when the bar had already been closed for the day.
The South Delhi bar belongs to socialite Bina Ramani.
The apex court while upholding the conviction and sentence of Sharma, who is serving life imprisonment in the murder case, ruled that the appellant court has the power to analyse and reappreciate the entire evidence which has been correctly done by the High Court in the present case.
