Karimganj, November 11: A Congress MLA and son of state minister in Assam has been summoned by a local court for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a college student.
Debabrata Pal, the student, had filed an FIR alleging that Rahul Roy, the MLA from Algapur in Hailakandi district, who is the son of Social Welfare Minister Gautom Roy, along with four of his supporters had kidnapped him and severely beat him up, police said.
Pal further alleged that he was whipped by the MLA and his accomplices, who also set a dog on him.
The motive behind the kidnapping and the assault was not stated in the FIR, the police said.
The Munsiff(I) court of Hailakandi summoned the MLA and four of his accomplices to appear before the court on or before November 30.
