Court sends woman revenue officer to 5-year rigorous imprisonment in bribery case

New Delhi:A court here has sentenced a woman patwari (revenue officer) to five years rigorous imprisonment for accepting bribe and also imposed a Rs 80,000 fine on her.

Special Judge (Anti-corruption) and Additional District Judge Garima Sharma yesterday awarded the five-year jail term to Sadhna Mishra after she was found guilty in the bribe case, public prosecutor Anil Shrivastav said.

On October 18, 2012, Mishra, who was posted as patwari in Chaple village under Kharsia tehsil of the district, was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 8,500 from complainant Dayashankar Darshan.

The bribe was allegedly demanded for transferring the ownership of an agricultural land, Shrivastav said.
A charge sheet was filed against Mishra in 2013. She faced charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, he added.
