Court rejects application to arraign PI in Gulburg case

Ahmedabad, October 11: The spacial court hearing the Gulburg Society riot case of 2002 today rejected an application of victims to arraign the then Police Inspector of Meghaninagar police station as an accused.

Designated Court Judge B U Joshi rejected the application saying that there was not enough evidence to implicate Inspector N D Parmar in the case.

Parmar was a Police Inspector of Meghaninagar under which the Gulburg Society falls. In the 2002 riots in Gulburg, 69 people including former Congress MP Eshan Jaffery were killed.

Riot victims, in an application to court, had demanded the arraigning of Parmar as an accused alleging that he had committed dereliction of duty. They had alleged that he had not recorded the statements of the victims properly which led to weakening of case against the accused.
