Hyderabad, February 07: A special CBI court, conducting trial into a fake passport case involving gangster Abu Salem, today fixed February 18 for his questioning.
As Mumbai police did not produce Salem in the court, it adjourned the case to February 18 for examination of the gangster under CrPC Section 313 (power to examine accused).
Under the section, the court would question the accused on basis of evidences given by the witnesses. The court has examined 39 witnesses produced by CBI, which investigated the 10-year-old case.
The trial against Salem for obtaining passport in a fictitious name in 2001 from Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh began here in 2009.
Salem, extradited from Portugal in 2005, is an accused, among other cases, in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts. He is currently lodged in a jail near Mumbai.
