Court dismisses plea to defreeze SB accounts

Hyderabad, April 17: The special CBI court dealing with the multi-crore Satyam fraud today dismissed petitions filed by the two accused auditors, S Goplakrishnan and Talluri Srinivas seeking issuance of directions to the CBI to defreeze their saving bank accounts.

Dismissing the petitions of former auditors of PriceWaterHouseCooper, the special Judge BVLN Chakravarti upheld the contention of the CBI that further investigations were pending in the Satyam fraud case. The judge also pointed out that the petitioners did not file any document in the court to prove that the amount available in both the accounts was not connected with the offence. He also said that at this stage of proceedings in the case, no direction can be issued to the CBI regarding defreezing of the accounts and dismissed the petitions.

Referring to a petition of Mahindra Satyam, to gain access to release record rooms at Satyam Technology Centre (STC) and `My Home Hub’ premises here, which were sealed by the CBI as part of the investigations, the court posted the matter to April 23.

The court also extended the judicial remand of all the ten accused, including the prime accused and Satyam founder B Ramalinga Raju, till the same date.

Meanwhile, the judge further posted the matter for orders to April 23 on the petition of Enforcement Directorate (ED) that sought court’s permission to allow it to record the statements of four Satyam scam accused.

Court seeks report on Raju’s health by April 23

With former Satyam computer chairman B Ramalinga Raju continuing to `abstain’ from judicial proceedings in the multi-crore accounting scam, a special court today issued a reminder to the hospital treating him to submit a report by April 23 on his health condition.

Raju, the prime accused in the financial fraud at the IT firm (now Mahindra Satyam) who is undergoing treatment for Hepatitis- C at NIMS here, has not been attending the court proceedings since September last year citing health reasons.
