New Delhi, December 16: The Delhi High Court Tuesday declared the strike of agitating employees of Batra Hospital illegal and restrained them from holding any demonstration within 100 metres radius of the institution.
The court directed the station house officer (SHO) of police station concerned to ensure the compliance of the order.
Around 100 staff nurses (male and female) of the hospital have been for the last four days protesting within the hospital premises against non-fulfillment of their demands, including salary hike.
Justice Shiv Narayan Dhingra said: “They have no right to stop the patients from entering the hospital or disturbing the functioning of the hospital. Any employee may have a right to agitate by legitimate means for his lawful demands but he/she cannot be given a license to take law into their own hands.”
R.K. Saini, arguing on behalf of the hospital, submitted that strike and demonstration were endangering the lives of indoor patients, particularly those who are in ICUs and on life saving devices as these protesters obstructed other employees on duty from going in or coming out.
