Couple held for attacking policeman who stopped son from playing cricket

New Delhi: A couple has been arrested for attacking a Delhi Police Head Constable with cricket stamps and bat after he stopped their son from playing cricket outside his house, police said on Friday.

Police said the incident occurred in Burai area of north Delhi on Tuesday evening after Head Constable Satyendra Singh, posted in Third Battalion of Delhi Police, had prevented Arun and Arti Singh’s son for playing cricket outside his residence.

The couple, who are neighbours of Satyendra Singh, were caught by locals and handed over to police who arrested them, a senior police officer said. “Satyendra Singh, who is staying in Hardev Nagar in Burari, has received multiple injuries on his head and admitted in the ICU at AIIMS trauma centre under the observation of senior doctor,” the officer said.

According to the author, the couple’s son Sahil, 13, was playing cricket in the street on Tuesday and Satyendra Singh caught him while he was scratching his car with a stump. As he asked Sahil to go in open space instead of playing on the street, the boy misbehaved with him and used abusive language, he added.

At this, Satyendra Singh slapped Sahil, who ran to his home and told his parents, who came out with cricket wickets and a bat and hit him on the head when he was taking out some items from his car’s boot, the officer said.

“They continued to attack him until he collapsed. Some locals caught hold the couple and handed them over to police. They were booked on charges of attempt to murder at the Burari Police Station,” he added.
