Banglore, May 11: Family dispute led a couple to commit suicide by hanging themselves at their residence in Kaveripura near Yarabnagar in Banashankari police limits.
The deceased have been identified as Gangadhar (30) and his wife Kavya (25). They were married five years ago and had two daughters – Mangala (4) and oneandahalf years old Divya.
Gangadhar workes as a cab driver, while Kavya was a housewife.
According to the police, the couple were found hanging from the ceiling fan of their room in the same saree. The couple ended their lives on Monday night, but the incident came to light only on Tuesday morning, when Gangadhar’s mother, Lakshmamma, who stays next to their residence, came in the morning.
“The investigations have revealed that the couple did not have a cordial relationship. Gangadhar used to consume alcohol sometimes, which Kavya did not like. He went to work only when he had customers. This also upset Kavya and led to a misunderstanding between them. This might have led the couple to end their lives,” police said.
Gangadhar’s father Byrappa said the couple never quarelled. “Even last night, Gangadhar had brought chicken and my wife prepared the dinner, which he took to his house. Mangala stayed back at our home, while Gangadhar took Divya along with him. Neither my son nor Kavya complained to us about each other. We wondered why they ended their lives orphaning the two kids,” he said.
The police said Kavya’s parents did not have any complaints against their soninlaw. A case has been registered in Banashankari police station.
